Easter Statins

Easter Statins

Martin & Patrick discuss;

It's Easter (Good Friday) and chocolate is in the air (or is it) as we buy Easter Eggs across the world, how do you eat your "Cadbury's Cream Eggs" (other brands are available). It's a hard time of the year for Patrick as his Easter Egg count has come down considerably since discovering his Heart Disease some 15 years ago.

The boys discuss recent news and include the Princess of Wales in their brief chat.\\

Today's headline subject for discussion is "Statins. What do we know about these drugs, who should be taking them, and for what? Do they cause many side effects as many suggest and is memory loss one of those side effects?

Statins block an enzyme the liver needs to make cholesterol. This causes the liver to remove cholesterol from the blood. While statins are highly effective and safe for most people, they have been linked to muscle pain, digestive problems, and mental fuzziness in some people.

It is said, that although there are some potential side effects long-term for statins, in most cases, if your doctor has identified you as having high cholesterol and needing a statin, the benefits greatly outweigh the risks.

It's important to know that stopping statins cold turkey, or even gradually, can cause serious health problems and you should talk to your doctor before doing so.

We review some questions from our listeners and try and assist where we can remember to consult your doctor.

Martin's Joke of the week returns, it's short, it's sweet but is it funny?
