I'm a diabetic food writer who wasn't diabetic when she started writing. It's taken me a long time to accept my illness and the effects on my life. Food writers don't really talk about what it's like to be in a career where what you eat can turn rogue on you; the effects of ageing on appetite and the ability to stuff oneself silly is a good example.
